Pride Snap Losing Streak with 15-4 Win Over Albright

READING, Pa. – Matthew Marino score a season high in the first Widener Men's Lacrosse conference win over Albright.
 
The 15-4 win moves the Pride to 3-10 and 1-3 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened the 60 minute campaign with a Shingle faceoff win and Shinko shot. The Pride offense continued to stretch the Lions defense win with shots from Haverstrom, Nolan Schemmer, and Shimko. Halfway through the first the Pride would call timeout to regroup while Schmitz registered a save with 2:53 left. Marino broke the scoring seal with a ball from Nicholas Knepp with 1:56 left. The Lions would answer right back but Rowan Coverdale would win the next faceoff and score an unassisted goal seconds later. The first ended tied at two.
     
  • Shingle opened the second with a faceoff win to give Haverstrom an unassisted goal to take a 3-2 lead. The Pride would register two back-to-back goals from Shimko and Haverstrom (up) before Ashton Amend forced a turnover with 11:00 left. The Pride and Lions would go shot-for-shot for the remainder of the half to head in with the Pride leading 5-2.
     
  • Knepp, Shimko, and Evan Townsend each saw forced turnovers to keep the first six minutes of the third scoreless. The Lions would score first but Shingle's faceoff win gave Schemmer the answering goal off a Haverstrom pass. The momentum flowed towards the Pride as Haverstrom and Shimko put in two goals within a minute to take an 8-3 lead with 7:19 left. Aiden McDonnell poked a ball lose to give the Pride a transition and a Haverstrom goal. Schmitz picked up another save in the cage while Marino capped off the third quarter scoring with 3:14. The score was 10-3 after three.
     
  • Shingle won the final quarter faceoff to then pick up an unassisted goal at 14:38. The post came home with two saves for each side before Marino's scoring continued after recalibrating. The Pride defense held the Lions quiet with a handful of saves from Schmitz and a Jackson forced turnover. With under three, Luke Cichetti, Schemmer, and Ashton Amend put in back-to-back goals to give the Pride their first conference win.
