Women's Lacrosse to Open Postseason Play at No. 15 Messiah

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse is headed back to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament after securing the fourth seed.
 
The semifinal game is slated for Wednesday, Apr. 29 at 5 p.m. in Grantham Pa. against the No. 15 and top seeded Messiah Falcons.
 
The Pride concluded the regular season with a 10-7 overall record and a 4-3 MAC Commonwealth record. The season showed an early 12-11 win over Swarthmore and a thrilling overtime 9-8 win against St. Mary's of Maryland.
 
The Falcons finished the season with a 13-4 season record and a 7-0 conference record. This season showed close games to top-five Gettysburg and Salisbury. MAC Commonwealth play would toss an 11-9 win to the Falcons over No. 7 York early in the season.
 
This season's conference play wrapped up with a 12-7 loss to Messiah. During the contest, junior attack Jessica Mantz would hold a hat-trick and two draw controls.
 
KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH
 
Mantz has emerged as one of the Pride's top attacking pieces with 50 goals and four assists. The junior holds a .756 shots on goal percentage with 13 free position goals and three game winning goals.
 
Senior attack Alex Krohn holds the number two spot in the attacking line as she leads the team with 39 assists. The playmaker feeds the ball with precision to give Mantz and Claire Lynch a shooting opportunity. Krohn also accumulated nine goals over the 17 games.
 
Lynch nabs the third spot with 42 season goals. The draw specialist leads the team with 42 won across 16 games played. Lynch has tabbed seven free position goals and two game winning goals.
 
The defensive side of the game features senior Kasey Thornton with 25 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. Thornton's defensive leadership has held opponents to 169 goals and a .381 shooting percentage as compared to the Pride's offensive .443 percentage.
 
The goal is protected by sophomore Madison Warlow who has accumulated over 100 saves this season after emerging as the new goalkeeper. Warlow holds over 800 in goal minutes with 118 total saves.
 
SEMIFINAL GAME INFORMATION
 
MAC Commonwealth ticket pricing are as follows: $8 (adults), $6 (senior citizens 65+), and $6 (youth 7-17). MAC students with ID and children six and under with an adult get in for free.

The winner will advance to the MAC Commonwealth Championship game on Saturday, May 2. Game time and location are to be determined.
