NEWTOWN, Pa. - Widener Women's Track and Field nab second on the MAC Track and Field Pre-Championship Poll, as announced by the conference office (Apr. 23).
This year's MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships are slated for Thursday, April 30 to Saturday, May 2 in Grantham, Pa. at Messiah University.
The Pride earn second with 181 total points and two first place votes. Ahead of the Pride is Lebanon Valley with 212 points and 13 first place points. Misericorida falls just under the Pride in third with 175 points. Messiah takes the final first place vote in fifth with 166 points.
Graduate student
Gabby Nye earns the spotlight ahead of this year's championships. Nye's season has been highlighted by three Widener records and three top 15 times in the nation. Currently Nye ranks 10th in the 1500-meter, fourth in the 5000-meter, and 12th in the steeplechase. Nye wraps her regular season up this weekend at Penn Relays after holding one outdoor second team All-American and a pair of first team all-conference awards.
In the field,
Isabel Rodriguez highlights the competition in the hammer throw. The senior thrower ranks third in conference rankings after her 50.33-meter hammer throw at the Paul Donahue Invitational. Rodriguez heads into this season as a two-time first team all-conference and a one time second team All-American.
