Women’s Lacrosse Roll Eight First Quarter Goals; Warlow Registers 100 Career Saves

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Lacrosse take a dominating win over Albright as Madison Warlow makes her 100th career save.
 
The 17-3 win moves the Pride to 8-6 in the regular season and 2-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened fast with Claire Lynch snagging the first draw. A free position Mantz goal opened the flood gates as Alyssa Ruggiero put one in 30 seconds later. Gianna Scaliti forced a turnover to give Ferko an up goal off a Krohn pass with 11:08 left. Ferko would score her second of the game less than a minute later. Thornton would force a turnover right off a draw to scoop a ground ball before Ruggiero scored a free position goal that forced a Lions timeout. Warlow registered back-to-back goals to give the Pride a good transition. Ruggiero's 4:24 goal pushed the score to 7-0 while Lynch. The Lions would put their first point on the board with 2:51 left while Lynch scored an up goal to end the first up 9-1.
     
  • Out of the gates, Mantz scored an unassisted goal for her 40th of the season. Ruggiero would force a turnover to give Mantz a goal with 11:23 left before Ferko saw her 10th goal of the season with 9:20 left. Warlow snagged two quick saves before Mantz scored an unassisted goal with 4:00 left. The half ended with Krohn scoring her first of the game to head to half up 14-1.
     
  • With 30 left to play, the Lions tacked on two back-to-back goals to make the score 14-3. Regan Polacek would make two back-to-back free position saves and a regular shot save to hold the Lions. Avery Farina would score her first goal of the game off a free position to end the period up 15-3.
     
  • As the final period begun the Pride offense would slow while the defense stepped up with forced turnovers from Ruggiero, Olivia Blades, and Maddie Stehman. Sydney Proper registered a save for a good transition to an Ava Leporati unassisted goal with 5:35 left. Proper made another big save to give Ferko an unassisted goal with 1:29 left. Farina ended the game with a forced turnover on a clear attempt to give the Pride their eighth win of the season with a final sore of 17-3.

Widener heads to Frederick, Md. on Saturday, April 18 for a 1 p.m. contest against the 6-6 (2-2 MAC Commonwealth) Hood Blazers to start a two game road stretch.
