CHESTER, Pa. – Spring Break opens on Hirschmann Field as Widener Men's Lacrosse falls to Ithaca in a noon contest.
The 21-8 loss moves the Pride to 2-3 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Nicholas Knepp would lead on offense with a goal and two assists.
- Miles Brant had two caused turnovers.
- In the cage, Colyn Schmitz would make nine saves in 32:14 minutes of play.
- The Pride took 19 shots with 11 on target, go 18-of-23 in clears, and go 2-of-3 in extra man opportunities.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bombers would open to a quick lead before Schmitz make a save. Luke Shimko would see the first shot before Luke Cichetti put in the first Pride goal with 9:27 remaining. The Pride would take a timeout to settle the team. Damian Bird would force a turnover the give the Pride a good clear. Drew Ferguson saw a man-up goal for his first of the season with 5:17 left to make the score 5-2. Brant forced a turnover alongside Eli Warfel to give Shimko a man-up goal. The period ended down 6-3.
- Schmitz picked up two quick saves to open the second before the Bombers struck. Schmitz made another save with 9:01 left to give the Pride a good clear and a Matt Horgan unassisted goal for his eighth. Brant and Shimko forced a turnover to give Schmitz another save. Ashton Amend and the offense capitalized with a Knepp assisted goal with 4:13 left. The Pride would head into half down 12-5.
- With the final 30 minutes of play, the Pride defense would dig in as the Bombers offense would pester shots. Logan Mast would make a save in the cage. A hot streaked Bombers' offense would take a 16-5 lead with 4:36 left. An unforced Bombers error would give Adan Garraffa a ground ball and Aiden Jackson his first goal of the season with 2:25 left. The Pride would head to the final 15 down 16-6.
- To open the final 15, Schmitz would make another save to give the Pride a good transition. Liam Drake found his first goal of the game and third of the season to make the score 18-7. A quiet stretch of the scoring came out before Knepp saw a goal from Horgan. The score was 19-8 with 5:37 left. The Pride would end down 21-8.
