Late Men’s Lacrosse Surge Comes Short Against Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – A Sunday contest for Widener Men's Lacrosse shows a late push against Arcadia.
 
The 12-8 moves the Pride to 2-6 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride offense would start the shots early with Aiden Jackson, Luke Shimko, and Nicholas Knepp finding chances. The Knights would answer on their possession. The post would be of aid for the Knights while Matt Mantz and Shimko continued to pester the Knights defense. With 4:54 left, the Knights struck first. A Haverstrom goal from Eli Warfel would put the Pride on the board with 3:10. The first ended down 4-1.
     
  • Mast opened the second with a handful of saves before the Knights found a goal five minutes in. Coverdale snagged a faceoff win to give Shimko a ground ball and assist off a Haverstrom goal. The offense found a spark with Matthew Marino scoring and Shimko adding one to his stat lines. To head into half the Pride were down 7-4.
     
  • Out of half, the Pride struck first from Sean Alminde. Mast would register saves while while more Pride shots went on. A scoreless final five minutes would end the third ended with the Pride down 9-5.
     
  • The final 15 to play would bow toward the Knights for the first portion before Knepp scored an unassisted goal with 5:57 left. An unforced turnover would give the Pride a good clear and a Liam Drake an unassisted goal. A man-up goal put the Pride down three with 2:18 left. As time expired the final showed Arcadia 12 and Widener 8.

Widener continues their road stretch on Friday, March 27 in Center Valley, Pa. against the 2-7 (0-0 MAC Freedom) DeSales Bulldogs. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
