CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse fall to Montclair State on Hirschmann Field in a windy contest.
The 13-6 final moves the Pride to 2-5 in regular season play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Nicholas Knepp would hold two goals.
- Samuel Haverstrom dished the only Pride assist.
- Aiden Jackson led on defense with three caused turnovers.
- Logan Mast held five saves in the cage.
- The Pride and Red Hawks would total 30 shots with 19 saves while the Pride went 21-of-24 in clears and win five faceoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride struck first as Knepp and Haverstrom would rip shots. Luke Shimko would hit the crossbar as Luke Cichetti snagged the ground ball for a quick scoop and score to take a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks would go on a 4-0 lead before the Pride forced a 20-second violation. Haverstrom would score an unassisted goal with 1:27 left in the first. Out of the Pride timeout, Knepp would score to end the first 4-3 Red Hawks.
- Cichetti forced a turnover to open the second period before the Red Hawks went on another 4-0 run. Pride shots would challenge the Red Hawks but none would see the back of the cage. A last second Damien Bird goal from Haverstrom would send the Pride into half down 8-4.
- Jackson would force a turnover after a Montclair State faceoff win. A good transition gave Matthew Marino his first goal of the game from Sean Alminde. Mast made a save while the Pride transitioned for a Knepp unassisted goal with 3:17 left. Back-to-back turnovers ended the third.
- A fast final 15 minutes opened with two quick Pride shots from Knepp and Marino. Montclair State would hold the only goal of the fourth at 8:41. Final shots would go from Ashton Amend before the Pride forced a 20-second violation. The final would show a 13-6 Red Hawks score.
