GRANTHAM, Pa. – Widener Women's Basketball's was unable to extend their winning streak to eight against the Messiah Falcons.
The Pride are now 16-5 on the season and 7-2 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Riley Stackhouse led all Widener scorers with 16 points, adding four rebounds, three steals and a block,
- Avalynn Baer recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, while also adding two steals.
- Giada Palmieri finished with eight points on 2-of-4 shooting from the floor and a 4-of-7 effort at the free-throw line while pulling down five rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener opened the game strong in the first quarter, jumping out to an early 15-7 lead after five minutes. Riley Stackhouse and Avalynn Baer provided a majority of the offense, and the Pride would enter quarter number two with a 20-17 lead.
- Messiah responded in the second quarter by tightening up defensively, holding Widener to seven points in the period while scoring fourteen to take a 31-27 lead into the halftime locker room.
- The third quarter followed a similar script, as the Pride were unable to get their offense moving and were limited to seven points. Messiah added on thirteen points in the frame to give them a 44-34 advantage heading into the final frame.
- Widener made a push in the fourth quarter, matching Messiah with 18 points in the final period and getting key baskets from Stackhouse, Baer and Palmieri, but the comeback effort came up short in a 62–52 final.
