CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Basketball fought back from a third quarter deficit to secure the win against the York College Spartans.
The Pride are now 19-5 on the season and 10-3 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Avalynn Baer led the Pride with 16 points on an efficient 7-of-9 shooting from the field while adding seven rebounds, and two steals.
- Lindsay Kutz stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high six assists, while going 5-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-4 at the free-throw line.
- Giada Palmieri provided a strong lift off the bench, scoring 10 points while also grabbing four rebounds.
- Jayla Daniels contributed eight points and three assists, shooting 3-for-7 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out strong on both ends of the floor, building an early cushion behind efficient scoring from Avalynn Baer and Lindsay Kutz. The Pride's defense limited York to just 11 points in the opening period, while dominating offensively in the paint to put 20 points on board in quarter number one.
- York responded with a big second-quarter push, outscoring the Pride 22-12 to take a narrow one-point lead into halftime. Widener's offense cooled during the stretch, but Giada Palmieri had a solid half which helped keep the Pride from falling to far behind. The Pride would trail by one heading into halftime.
- The Pride struggled early in the third quarter, as York gained a nine-point advantage. But the Pride were unfazed as Stackhouse connected on two free throws and Metrick hit a three to bring them back within striking distance. The third quarter would end with the Pride only trailing by two.
- Widener delivered the decisive run in the fourth, outscoring York 15-7 to close the game. Kutz scored the go-ahead bucket with just under nine minutes to play and the Pride never looked back. Kutz and Baer added on to the Widener lead helping the Pride secure a 65-59 win.
