CHESTER, Pa. - The Pride battled back from a 2-0 deficit on Wednesday night, defeating Washington College, 3-2.
The Pride improve to 2-13 and remain 1-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washington took an early 11-4 lead, but the Pride steadily worked their way back into the set. Widener cut the deficit to 16-12 before a late push brought the Pride all the way back to take a 19-18 lead. Washington answered with a run of its own, eventually taking a 22-20 advantage before closing out the opening set, 25-22.
- The Pride came out quickly, building a 5-2 lead before Washington responded with four points to even the set at 6-6. The teams remained close through 9-9, but Washington began to create separation. Widener pulled within one at 16-15, but Washington scored four straight and went on to take the set, 25-16, putting the Pride in a 2-0 hole.
- Widener answered immediately. After Washington opened with a 3-1 lead, the Pride scored four straight to move ahead 5-3. Widener continued to build its advantage, taking leads of 11-6, 16-9 and 19-12. Washington made a late push, cutting the deficit to 19-14, but the Pride regained control. After Washington saved two set points, Bottino finished the set with a kill from Carter to give Widener a 25-17 win and extend the match.
- The Pride carried the momentum into a back-and-forth fourth set. After taking an early 4-1 lead, Widener found itself trailing 13-9 and later 17-15. The Pride then erupted for six straight points, including two aces from Towers, to take a 21-17 lead. Washington battled back and eventually took a 25-24 advantage after Widener had reached set point at 24-22. The teams traded points all the way to 28-28 before a Kayla Sicher kill gave the Pride a 29-28 lead. A Washington attack error on the next point completed the comeback, giving Widener a 30-28 victory and forcing a fifth set.
- Washington scored the opening point, but the Pride responded with five straight to take a 5-1 lead. Washington trimmed the deficit to 5-3 before Widener maintained its advantage, moving ahead 8-5. The Shoremen battled back again, eventually tying the set at 9-9. The Pride answered with three consecutive points to take a 12-9 lead, with Bottino contributing a kill and Zimmerman adding a block during the run. Washington got within two at 12-10, but Widener scored the final three points of the match to secure the 15-11 victory. Zimmerman, Kaitlyn Guessford and Mira Canali combined for the final block as the Pride completed the reverse sweep.

The Pride travel to Gwynedd Mercy, Pa., on Saturday, October 3 for a tri-match. Widener faces Gwynedd Mercy at 11 a.m. before taking on FDU-Florham at 1 p.m.
