Reyes and Bright Show Near Season Highs; No. 16 Hood Downs Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – Over 200 combined points emerged in a thriller with Widener Men's Basketball and No. 16 Hood. 
 
The 104-97 loss moves the Pride to 6-13 in the regular season and 3-5 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Myles Bright led with 39 points for a near personal high while shooting 9-13 from three.
  • Jay-Nelly Reyes held 19 with a block and two steals.
  • On defense, Ethan Dodson snagged six boards.
  • The Pride shot a season tying 56.1% from the floor, season best 51.5% from three, and saw 34 in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blazers opened fast with a 10-0 run. Jacob Aryee put the Pride on the board with a layup. Namisse Musonge put up a block and a rebound to give Dylan Schlatter a shot at the stripe. The Blazers took another run to push the score to 16-3. Kori Segich put in a layup at 14:14 to make the score 16-5. Segich continued the scoring with a layup. TJ Bryson sunk a triple with 11:43 and picked up two from the charity stripe. Reyes hit back-to-back triples before poking a steal and a fastbreak layup. Segich's back-to-back layups would make the score 36-27. Schlatter hit a triple with 5:01 left forcing a Blazers timeout. Bright found the groove with back-to-back triples to bring the game within five. With 1:27 left, Bright hit a jumper on a fastbreak to bring the score to 46-43. A final layup from Segich sent the Pride into half down 53-47.
     
  • A 20-minute battle dug in with Bright draining a triple out of the gate. A minute later continued his hot streak to head into a media timeout. Bryson poked a ball to give him a fastbreak layup. Triples rained as Reyes and Bryson put in back-to-backs to take a 65-62 lead. Dodson's layup at 13:00 would lead into a Blazers' turnover that gave Bright a jumper. The Blazers pushed back with threes while Bright remained hot. With 7:37 left, Reyes hit another triple to begin a three-in-a-row train. Dodson saw a block to give Bright another and Reyes found net seconds later. 3:26 would see another Bright triple as under a minute appeared. The Blazers would find a last-minute push as the Pride kept pushing with a Dodson jumper and Bright layup. A final triple passed the hoop as the Pride fell 104-97.

Widener travels to St. David's, Pa. on Wednesday, February 4 against the 6-12 (3-5 MAC Commonwealth) Eastern Eagles. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
