ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – A two-point thriller show its face in conference play as Widener Men's Basketball falls to Eastern.
The 85-83 loss moves the Pride to 7-13 in the regular season and 4-5 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Myles Bright and Kori Segich commanded the offense with 17 points each.
- Segich would hold five rebounds.
- Namisse Musonge and Jacob Ayree held 10 from the bench.
- The Pride shot 43.3% from the floor, 41.1% from three, and saw 38 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride began the 40 minute stretch slow as Ethan Dodson put points on the board at 16:43. Segich continued scoring with a triples at 14:39 off a Dylan Schlatter ball. The Pride offense would awaken with a 12-0 run to take the lead with points from Musonge, Aryee, and Emmett Kane. With under halfway remaining, the Pride would be tied at 17. The Eagles would hold a run before Segich drained a triple with 5:41 left. Another triple at 3:53 from Segich would make the score 29-26 Eagles. Connor Schumacher cashed in on some points while taking the lead with two from the stripe seconds later. The Pride headed to half tied at 31.
- Dodson struck first at the 18:20 mark after a Jay-Nelly Reyes steal. TJ Bryson cashed in two from the charity stripe before Segich hit a triple. Back-and-forth emerged as both teams would go at the rim. With just over 11 left, Bright sunk a triple to take a two point lead. With 6:07 left, Bright hit another before Reyes put in two layups to take a 68-65 lead. The final minutes emerged as Reyes tied the game at 74 with two from the stripe to send the game to overtime.
- The short period begun with Segich finding net as Dodson poked a ball lose to give Bryson a fastbreak layup. The game remained close as Bright hit a layup to surpass 80 points. The Eagles would go on a short run as a last second triple from Bright gave the Pride hope. One final steal would come just shy of a second overtime period as the Pride fell 85-83.
