Pride Rally in Final Minutes to Secure Draw Against Dutchmen

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's soccer scores a late goal to secure a draw against the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen.

The Pride are now 4-3-2 on the season and 0-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener and Lebanon Valley played to a scoreless first half, with the Pride leaning on goalkeeper Araba Abanyie, who tallied four saves in the opening 45 minutes. Widener's best chance came from Mia Garofalo's early shot and a close-range effort by Allison Gomez, but both were turned away by the Dutchmen keeper. The Pride held strong against nine Lebanon Valley shots to send the match to halftime tied 0–0.

  • Lebanon Valley broke the deadlock in the 56th minute scoring the go-ahead goal to take a 1-0 lead. Widener responded by pressing forward, with Charlotte Burke forcing multiple saves and corners. The Pride's persistence was rewarded in the 87th minute, when Allison Gomez buried the game-tying goal to make it 1–1. Widener continued to push until the final whistle but settled for the hard-fought 1-1 draw.
