Pride Offense Comes to Life in First Win of the Season

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Women's Soccer scored three goals in a dominate win over the Transylvania University Pioneers.

The Pride are now 1-1-0 on the season and 0-0 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride offense did not take long to get things going in game number two. Erin Flanagan delivered a strike at 16:47 to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. After taking the lead, The Widener defense held the Pioneers offense at bay, limiting them to only two shots in the first half. The Pride were close to adding on to their lead at the 38:26 mark but the Pioneers goalkeeper made the save keeping the Widener lead limited to one heading into halftime.
  • After halftime, the Pride wasted little time adding on to their lead, as Charlotte Burke converted a penalty kick at 52:22 to give Widener a 2-0 lead. Tatum Stielow gave Widener another insurance goal at the 67:17 mark. Araba Abanyie saved seven shots, all coming in the second half, to secure her first career shutout and give the Pride their first win of the season by a final score of 3-0.

UP NEXT
The Pride will stay at home to face Notre Dame of Maryland on Wednesday, September 3rd. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
