Men’s Lacrosse Rolls 15 Unanswered Goals in First Conference Showing

Haverstrom and Kala’i scores season high

READING, Pa. – Mike Kala'i and Samuel Haverstrom puts on a show in a 19-1 win over Alvernia in the first conference win of the season.
 
The 19-1 win moves the Pride to 2-9 in the regular season and 1-0 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened the game with a Haverstrom goal on a Nicholas Knepp assist. Shingle won a faceoff right after as Haverstrom found another goal at 11:25 with a Bryant Maits assist. Luke Shimko found a goal after Haverstrom snagged a ground ball for his ninth of the season. Jacob Shannon and Knepp forced turnovers to keep the Golden Wolves scoreless. Matt Buckley's shot would fall at 7:38. Billie would register a couple of saves while Buckley added another and Kala'i found his first goal.
  • Billie and Covington kept the Golden Wolves quiet while Shimko scored. Haverstrom once again scored while Brian Young forced a turnover. Kala'i, Shimko, and Blum each scored within a minute of each other to make the score 11-0. The head into half, Knepp scored man-up and Kala'i added one more before half to lead 13-0.
  • Out of half, Shimko found Haverstrom to open the scoring. Billie went back-to-back in saves before Buckley pushed the Pride to 15 goals. Aidan Jackson forced a turnover before the Golden Wolves punched in a goal. With 0:08 left, Drew Ferguson saw his first goal of the game to end the quarter up 16-1. 
  • A quick faceoff win for the Pride would allow Kala'i to find his sixth goal of the season with a CJ Lane assist. The Pride forced a clock violation to transition to a good clear and a Ferguson goal to make the score 18-1. Colyn Schmitz registered a save while George Knaiz ended the dominance with a goal to close out the game with a 19-1 win.

Widener returns to Chester, Pa. to face the 1-10 (0-1 MAC Commonwealth) Albright Lions on Wednesday, Apr. 9. Faceoff on Hirschman Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
