Playoff Hopes Survive on Men’s Lacrosse Senior Day Against No. 12 Stevenson

Pride honor 10 departing senior student-athletes

CHESTER, Pa. – Men's Lacrosse honor 10 seniors on rainy day against #12 Stevenson to keep postseason chances alive.
 
The 21-8 loss moves the Pride to 4-13 in the regular season and 3-4 in MAC Commonwealth play.

  • The Pride opened the game with a strong presence. On offense Luke Cichetti took two quick shots before Marino added one. On the other side, Billie saw his first save. Bryant Maits and Marino forced a turnover to ward off the attacking Mustangs. A long ball assist from Billie gave Haverstrom the first Pride goal at 7:51. Billie saw three quick saves as the quarter came to a close while Maits scored with 0:23 left to make it a 5-2 score.
  • Haverstrom forced a turnover to open the second quarter while Shimko's shot rattled the crossbar. Austin Angradi saw his first caused turnover of the game. Out of a faceoff, the Pride forced a 20-second clock violation to start a short run. Shimko scored first before Blum had a scoop and score to make the score 7-4 in favor of the Mustangs. The Pride battled it out for the final five minutes of play to head to half down 8-4.
  • With 30 left to play, the Pride dug in as the Mustangs offense came out strong. Haverstrom put in his 27th goal of the season at 11:46 to make the score 10-5 in favor of the Mustangs. The Pride offense became quiet as the defense would see caused turnovers from Billie and Marino. The score was 14-5 after three.
  • With 15 minutes on the board, Billie opened quickly with a save. The Mustangs' offense would go on a 4-0 run before George Balascak scored his second of the season off a Marino pass to make the score 18-6. Shimko and Matt Ellison would take shots to try and answer the Mustangs. Shimko scored an unassisted goal at 1:51 while Covington forced a turnover late in the game giving Matt Buckley a man-up goal with 0:25 left. The Pride fell to #12 21-8.

Widener will await results from Eastern vs Hood on Sunday, Apr. 27 at 4 p.m. for postseason seeds.
