Men’s Lacrosse End Season Against No. 10 York on Kinsley Field

YORK, Pa. – A MAC Comonwealth Semifinal game bowed the opposite way as Widener Men's Lacrosse fell to No. 10 York in a hot afternoon. 
 
The 21-7 loss moves the Pride to 4-14 to end the season and remain 3-4 in the conference. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride would begin their 60-minute heat educed game on defense as the Pride dug on defense. A defense run for the Pride would keep the fast-paced Spartans silent until 11:29. A Cole Blum faceoff win gave the Pride an attacking possession as George Balascak snagged a ground ball. Nicholas Knepp ripped one that would hit post. Out of a timeout, Haverstrom tied the game at 5:39 with a Luke Shimko assist. Billie's goalkeeping kept the attacking Spartans silent as Shimko took the lead with a long-airmailed ball from Billie for his 28th of the season. The first would end with the Pride up tied at two.
  • The Pride began the second on the defensive as Billie saw back-to-back saves. The defense continued their string as Aiden Jackson snagged a ground ball at 8:49 before a good clear. Jackson forced a turnover giving Miles Brant a ground ball. Mike Kala'i picked up his first goal at 2:08 to make the score 5-3. As half approached, the Pride went into half down 6-3.
  • With the final 30 to play, Haverstrom began the offensive side with a blocked shot. A Spartans' penalty gave Luke Cichetti a man-up goal at 12:39 with a Bryant Maits assist. A hot start for the Pride continued with another man-up goal from Haverstrom for his 29th of the season. The offense continued to pressure with shots from Chris Covington and Matt Buckley. Buckley scored an unassisted goal at 5:07 to try and pause the hot Spartan stretch. The Pride would head into the final 15 down 15-6.
  • Out of the quarter break, the Pride would dig in as the Spartans saw two back-to-back goals. Shots would fly from Shimko and Haverstrom that would be saved to keep the score 17-6. Sam Heister would end the game in the cage as he took over with less than half remaining.  A Pride faceoff win saw a Brian Young ground ball to lead into a Buckley goal assisted from Knepp at 6:09. The Pride would end with a quiet offensive side and a defense intense final five. The 2025 campaign would close with a 21-7 loss to No. 10 York in the conference semifinal game.
