No. 15 York Pushes Men's Lacrosse to Tough Defeat on Kinsley Field

Miles Brant scores first collegiate career goal

YORK, Pa. – Fast paced Spartans offense puts Widener Men's Lacrosse at their heels in a conference battle.
 
The 19-8 loss moves the Pride to 4-11 in the regular season and 3-2 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Matt Buckley led the Pride with four goals.
  • First year Luke Shimko put out three assists on offense.
  • Damien Bird forced a pair of turnovers.
  • Keegan Billie made 16 saves in the cage while Sam Heister added one to his stats.
  • The Pride would take 29 shots on offense, force five turnovers on defense, and win 11 faceoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride offense came out guns blazing as Matthew Marino took the first shots of the game. Sam Haverstrom continued the shooting along with Bryant Maits. Shimko's first shot would hit the post as Billie would register a handful of saves on the other side of the field. The Pride offense remained silent for the first 15 minutes of play as the Spartans led 4-0.
  • A quiet first five minutes of the second would be ended as Buckley put the Blue and Gold on the board at 10:24. Within the first five minutes, Billie would see three saves to keep the Spartans at bay. The Spartans went on to score three but Buckley answered with an unassisted goal at 5:44. Maits found the back of the cage after a Shimko assist at 3:40 as the Pride headed to half down 11-3.
  • Bird forced a turnover right out of the half to allow Buckley to hit his hat trick. Liam Drake saw a goal from a Shimko pass at 11:20 to cut into the deficit. Billie ended the quarter with six saves to try and keep the attacking Spartans out. Buckley ended the scoring with a goal at 0:24 left in the third.
  • Heister went into the cage for the final 15 minutes of play and would register his save at 12:25. Robert Watkins saw his second goal of the season at 5:40 with a Marino assist. Cole Blum won the proceeding faceoff to give Miles Brant his first goal collegiate career goal as the scoring for the Blue and Gold came to an end. The Pride would fall 19-8.
UP NEXT
Widener continues their road stretch with a trip to St. David's, Pa. to visit the 7-8 (3-2 MAC Commonwealth) Eastern Eagles. Faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
