Third Quarter Surge Ends Short in Men’s Lacrosse Defeat to Arcadia

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse falls to Arcadia in a non-conference matchup as a third quarter push falls short.
 
The 14-6 loss moves the Pride to 1-7 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Samuel Haverstrom scores a pair to lead the Pride.
  • Luke Shimko would add a goal and two assist.
  • Austin Angradi led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.
  • In the cage, Keegan Billie registered 13 saves.
  • The Pride took 35 total shots, won nine faceoffs, and scooped 27 ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • A quick offense start for the Pride would show shots from Matt Buckley and a Billie save. Matt Horgan would rip a couple shots that would be saved along with Matt Marino. As time was about to expire, Shimko put the Pride on the board with his sixth goal of the season to end the quarter down 6-1. 
  • Haverstrom, Horgan, and Shimko kept the attacking pressure on as the majority of the first eight minutes would be scoreless. Billie and the defense would hold the Knights to five shots. The scoring drought ended with a Bryant Maits goal at 4:48 to make the score 6-2. A man-up goal from Luke Cichetti would send the Pride into the locker room down 6-3.
  • Chris Covington caused a turnover out of the gate allowing Mike Kala'I to score a goal from Shimko. A quick Knights' turnover would result in a Haverstrom goal for his 11th of the season to make the score 6-5 in favor of the Knights. Billie would stand big in the cage with two big saves. With 4:21 on the board, Haverstrom added another goal with a Shimko assist to make the score 8-6. The Pride headed into the final 15 minutes of play down 10-6. 
  • A fast 15 minutes of play would see a quiet offense from the Blue and Gold. Shots would rattle off as the defense stepped up. On the attacking side, the Pride would see shots from Cichetti, Kala'I, Haverstrom and Matt Ellison that didn't fall. The Pride would end with a final score of 14-6.

Widener hits the road to Montclair, N.J. on Wednesday, Mar. 26 for a non-conference show against the 7-2 (0-0 NJAC) Montclair State Red Hawks. Faceoff is set for 6 p.m.
