3-PEAT INDOOR CHAMPIONS!!! Women’s Track and Field Dominate MAC Indoor Championships

Pride earn 13 all-conference

READING, Pa. – Kayla Robinson and Gabby Nye of Widener Women's Track and Field sweep individual wins in a dominating three-peat win at indoor championships.
 
The Pride took first overall with 158 total team points, winning by 50 points over Lebanon Valley who saw 158.5 points.

DAY 1 – FRIDAY (42 Total Points | 1st Place)
 
The Pride opened day one of competition with a fifth-place finish in the DMR. Loralei Golembiewski, Emma Schultz, Jaden Sweely, and Liz Egan would capture 12:40.46 with four points.
 
Kayla Robinson's long jump of 5.58-meter would capture first and break her into the top 50 in the nation.
 
In prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, Kayla Robinson would lead the way with a 9.31. Zahara Simmons would tie for fifth with a 9.51. Robinson and Simmons would return for finals on Saturday.
 
Mariam Koita and Maria Muzzarelli would secure a 1-2 seeding in the 60-meter prelims. Moita clocked a 7.75 and Muzzarelli would race to a 7.82.
 
Big points in the 5000-meter run would be seen by the Pride. Gabby Nye led the way with a 17:42.90 to take first overall. Nye would pull ahead in the final 400-meters. Kathryn Long saw a fifth overall finish with a 18:23.21.
 
Isabel Rodriguez saw a fifth overall finish in the weight throw as she would mark a 14.82-meter distance on her second attempt.

The final event of the day would be seen in the 4x200-meter relay. Muzzarelli, Erica Thomas, Alyssa Kolimaga, and Koita would clock a 1:44.94 to win by three seconds and set a new MAC record.
 
DAY 2 – SATURDAY (158 Total Points | 1st Place)
 
Saturday track events would be kicked off with a Nye gold in the mile. She would lead the entire race and run to a 5:01.16. Loralei Golembiewski would see a fifth overall finish with a 5:13.29, marking a new personal best.
 
Robinson captured her second gold in the 60-meter hurdles final as she took home a 9.10 final time. Simmons would earn points with her 9.51. 
 
Robinson's weekend continued in the triple jump where she captured first with an 11.83-meter jump. 
 
Emma Schultz's 400-meter dash would show a 1:01.68.
 
The Pride would see a 1-2 finish in the 60-meter dash finals. Muzzarelli would take first with a 7.72 and Koita clocked in a 7.76.
 
Muzzarelli captured her second gold in the 200-meter dash with a 25.57. Koita took silver with a 25.65 and Thomas would sneak into 8th with a 26.80.
 
The shot put would feature Robinson once again as she took first with a 12.68-meter throw which would win by a meter.
 
A long-distance weekend for Nye would end with her final gold in the 3000-meter run. A four second win would show a 10:18.08. Long would run in a 10:32.53. 
 
The 4x800-meter relay would take a silver as Loralei Golembiewski, Meredith Schroeder, Erin O'Brien, and Jaden Sweely saw a 10:02.35.
 
The final running event would show a fourth overall finish from Muzzarelli, Erica Thomas, Alyssa Kolimaga, and Koita in the 4x400-meter relay. The four would run a 4:16.38.

Widener returns to Chester, Pa. to prep for the AARTFC Championships slated for Friday and Saturday, Mar. 7-8. This year's regional championships will be held in Ithaca, N.Y.
