Women’s Basketball Holds on to Beat Hood for Third Straight Conference Win

FREDERICK, Md. – Widener Women's Basketball had to battle to the very end to secure a conference win against the Hood College Blazers.

The Pride improve to 14-7 overall and 7-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Lindsay Kutz led the way for Widener with a team-high 20 points, shooting 7-of-15 from the field and adding 8 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists.
  • Mia Robbins was dominant inside, scoring 17 points while grabbing 8 rebounds and making 5-of-6 free throws.
  • Mary McFillin provided a strong perimeter presence, scoring 14 points, draining four three-pointers, and contributing 3 steals and 3 assists.
  • Kimberly Casiello filled the stat sheet with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.


HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener came out strong, using aggressive defense to force early turnovers. Mia Robbins opened the scoring with a layup, and Lindsay Kutz added back-to-back baskets to push the lead. Widener capitalized on fast breaks, scoring 16 points off turnovers, and closed the quarter with a 21-14 lead.
 
  • Defense played a major role in keeping Hood at bay, as Widener held them to just 10 points in the second quarter. Mary McFillin knocked down a three-pointer in transition to extend the lead, and Mia Robbins continued to dominate in the paint. A late basket by Kimberly Casiello helped Widener enter halftime with a 36-24 advantage.
 
  • Hood responded with a 21-point outburst, narrowing the gap as they capitalized on some Widener turnovers. Despite a slow stretch, Widener maintained the lead thanks to key free throws from Lindsay Kutz and huge shots from Mia Robbins. Entering the final frame, Widener held a 51-45 edge.
 
  • Widener sealed the victory with a dominant 26-point quarter, with multiple players stepping up in the clutch. Mary McFillin drained another three-pointer, while Lindsay Kutz and Kimberly Casiello hit critical free throws. Mia Robbins delivered key rebounds and inside baskets to keep Hood from closing the gap. Widener pulled away down the stretch to secure the 77-70 win.

The Pride continue their road trip as they travel to Grantham, Pa. for a monumental match up against the 19-2 (10-0 MAC) Falcons of Messiah University. Tip off is set for 7p.m.
