Bright sees season high steals; Daulerio goes perfect from the line

FREDERICK, Md. – Widener Men's Basketball bring in the winter threat with an upset win over Hood in Volpe Athletic Center.

The 82-78 nail-biter moves the Pride to 7-14 in the regular season and 5-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Matt Daulerio would lead the Pride with 22 points while shooting a perfect 11-of-11 from the line.
  • Myles Bright's all-around ability helped with 15 points and a season high three steals.
  • Defensively, Daulerio put up a new season high five blocks.
  • The Pride shot 43.3% from the floor, 29% from three, and saw 28 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blazers would strike first but were quickly answered with back-to-back Daulerio points. Kevin Schenk would start a quick 8-0 run to take a five-point lead. Jacob Aryee would end the run with the first triple for the Pride. At 13:14, Bright drained a triple and Jay-Nelly Reyes put in a layup to take a 20-11 lead minutes later. Schenk threw up a block allowing an Aryee tip-in on the other side to take a 12-point lead. Daudlerio put in four from the charity stripe to lead 35-27 just under five. A jumper from Ayree send the Pride into the locker room up 40-29.
  • Out of half, Daulerio saw another block with Bright putting in a layup for the first points of the second. Dylan Schlatter sunk a triple at 17:30 to take a 10 point lead. Bright hit a triple two minutes later to hit the 50 point mark. Triples rained as Aryee put in another to try and keep the lead at double-digits. Luke Mazur and Ethan Dodson continued to put the pressure on just over the half way mark with a triple and layup. Daulerio's layup at 8:19 pushed the lead to 68-56. The fouls began to play a factor as the Pride would continue to be sent to the charity stripe. The Pride offense would capitalize as Daulerio, Bright, and Schenk would hit all shots. The Blazers began to claw back under five to make it a five point Pride lead at 1:03. A huge block at 15 seconds from Aryee would help send Daulerio to the stripe to cap the game with an 82-78 win on the road.
