CHESTER, Pa. – High scoring Widener Men's Basketball game against Messiah in an adjusted Wednesday evening game resulted in a hard loss.
The 90-79 loss moves the Pride to 7-15 in the regular season and 5-6 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kevin Schenk shot a near season high 24 points.
- On defense, Schenk would see three blocks while Luke Mazur and Jacob Aryee stole two balls.
- The Pride would shoot 52.5% from the floor, 45.5% from three, see 42 points in the paint, and force four lead changes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first five minutes of the game would show a combined 25 points as Myles Bright would begin the scoring for the Blue and Gold. A triple from Aryee would be the first for the Pride while Mazur added another 30 seconds later. Matt Daulerio's triple at 14:08 would tie the game at 15. The Falcons' offense began to heat up but a tipin from Bright and a Matt Johnson triple brought the deficit back to six. Bright sunk a triple at 3:28 to make the score 43-34 and Schenk put up a block, rebound, and two points to cut the score to seven. Dylan Schlatter saw his first points of the game at 2:10 with a triple to begin a 10-2 run to end the half. The Pride headed into the locker room down 47-46.
- The 10-2 continued in the second to extend it to a 17-2 run. The first charity stripe points for the Pride would be sunk by Daulerio at 13:37 to take a three-point lead. Johnson's layup at 11:38 helped bring the Pride back within one. A quick 9-0 run under 10 minutes would help bring the deficit down as Johnson, Mazur, Daulerio, and Schenk saw points to make the score 71-70. Schlatter kept the game close with a tipin layup at 2:16 to allow a Pride timeout to be called. The Falcons' offense shot well from the line to take an 11-point lead under one while Schenk saw the final points with a jumper. The Pride fell 90-79.
