READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball struggled late in a close MAC Commonwealth battle against Alvernia.
The 83-77 loss moves the Pride to 7-16 in the regular season and 5-7 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kevin Schenk led the Pride with 25 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes of play.
- Off the bench, Ethan Dodson registered 10 points.
- Matt Daulerio saw the only Pride block on defense.
- The Pride shot 48.4% from the floor, 17.6% from three, and saw 48 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride would come into Reading, Pa. with some heat for a 10-0 run within the first three minutes. Schenk would register the first five points while Jacob Aryee sunk a triple. Luke Mazur got on the stat lines with a good jumper at 16:22. Myles Bright would be sent to the charity stripe to hit two while a minute later Dodson put in a layup to give the Pride an 18-12 lead. Aryee's triple at 7:19 would extend the lead to eight while Schenk put in a layup to push the score over 30. The only block came at 5:41 from Daulerio to allow him to put in a layup in the next position. Bright saw the final half points with a layup to head into halftime up 40-32.
- Out of half, Dauleiro saw the first points at 17:31 while Bright's triple pushed the lead to eight at 16:57. A slow offensive stretch for the Pride would be ended with a Daulerio layup at 13:32. Schenk added four to push the lead to 53-48. With 10 minutes to go, Daulerio sunk free throws to take a one-point lead. Three charity stripe shots from Aryee would start a 5-2 run with seven minutes left. Dodson's layup at 4:23 would cut the deficit to one as the offense fell quiet. The game would end with an 7-8 scoring stretch to fall 83-77.
