Knepp Scores a Pair in First Road Defeat Against Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Widener Men's Lacrosse battled it out with Haverford as Nicholas Knepp led the scoring.

The 16-6 loss moves the Pride to 0-3 in the regular season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Nicholas Knepp would lead the Pride with two goals.
  • Brian Young and Cole Blum each saw five ground ball pickups.
  • The Pride would take 32 shots on offense and cause six turnovers on defense.
  • In transition, the Blue and Gold would go 26-of-28 in clears to the Fords 28-of-33.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A fast paced game start would showcase a heavy Fords showing but Keegan Billie would keep the attacking opponent scoreless. The Pride would see a good clear and quickly call a timeout at 9:12 to draw a play. Out of the break, Matthew Marino found the back of the cage off of a Sean Alminde pass to take the first lead of the game. Defensive struggles and penalties would hurt the Pride as the quarter would end 4-1 in favor of the Fords.
  • The second quarter would start with a Knepp goal to cut the deficit to two. A man-up goal from Maits would answer a Fords goal off a Matt Horgan ball in. Another man-up goal would come with 2:15 left in the quarter from Matt Buckley on a Luke Shimko pass in. The Pride would trail 8-4 at half.
  • A third quarter slump would hurt the Pride as Billie tried to keep the game in grips with three saves. The offense would see shots from Sam Haverstrom, Maits, and Alminde. The quarter would end with a 6-0 Fords run to head into the final 15 of play down 14-4.
  • The final 15 minutes of play would begin with a Matt Shingle faceoff win. A quiet portion of the quarter would be ended with a Matt Horgan man-up goal with 6:16 remaining. The final Pride goal would come with 2:46 left from Knepp. The Blue and Gold fell 16-6.
