CHESTER, Pa. – Tough afternoon in the Den for Widener Men's Basketball would highlight a new 1k member.
The 81-74 loss moves the Pride to 5-14 in the regular season and 3-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Kevin Schenk led the Pride with 25 points to join the 1k club and led with six rebounds.
- Luke Mazur would add 14 points.
- Defensively Ethan Dodson would add a block and Jacob Aryee and Steven Hamilton would steal a ball.
- The Pride shot 44.1% from the floor, 46.4% from three, and register 26 points in the paint on hard fought rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mustangs would strike first but would be quickly answered with a Myles Bright free throw. Matt Daulerio added to the points with a layup seconds later. A back and forth offensive string would tie the game at seven. A quick 6-0 run would extend the lead before the Mustangs would claw back into it. The first triple of the game for the Pride would fall from Dodson at the 5:22 minute mark. Schenk added one for himself to help the Pride cut the deficit down to 11. The Pride offense began get hot with Dylan Schlatter putting in a layup and Schenk adding back-to-back triples to inch closer to his needed 13 points. Mazur closed out the half with a triple to head into the locker room down 36-32.
- Schenk would open the second with a layup to earn his 1000th career point. Bright sunk a triple to tie the game at 37. The lead swung to the good guys with five quick points from Schenk to 42-41. Mazur and Jay-Nelly Reyes hit back-to-back triples to hit the 50 point mark. Mazur got hot with back-to-back triples to take a one point lead with 9:54 left. The offense struggled for four minutes to fall down before Bright was sent to the charity stripe. At 4:13 Bright hit a triple to cut the deficit to five. Schenk cut the score to two with a triple and Johnson would see the final points with a layup as the Pride fell 81-74.
