CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – A high scoring second half for Widener Men's Basketball comes short in a close loss to DeSales.
The 75-70 loss moves the Pride to 2-5 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Namisse Musonge led the Pride off the bench with 16 points and five rebounds.
- Jay-Nelly Reyes recorded four steals with five rebounds.
- Ethan Dodson had the Pride's only block.
- The Pride shot 37.3% from the floor, 61.3% from the line, and capitalized with 32 points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride opened sluggish in the first half with the Bulldogs jumping to a 12-0 lead in the first five minutes. TJ Bryson poked the ball loose and put in the first points on a layup at 14:03. Bryson continued the scoring with a triple to make the score 14-5 in favor of the Bulldogs. Dodson's block came at 12:20 and would be the only Pride block for the duration. Musonge sunk a triple and a jumper after a Reyes steal. The Pride points started to swing as Musonge put in a pair from the line while Dylan Schlatter hit a triple. At 8:46 the Pride took a lead with a Reyes steal and fastbreak layup. Myles Bright would see his first points at 6:37 with a triple alongside Kori Segich with two from the charity stripe. Schlatter would put in the final Pride points of the half to go in with a 33-28 score in favor of DeSales.
- Out of half, Bright hit a jumper for the first points for either side. Reyes saw another steal to give Segich some points to bring the game within one. 17:35 would show a Schlatter triple while Reyes' fastbreak layup continued to put Pride points up. The Pride would take a 10-2 run ending with a Dodson steal and layup at 12:22 to make the score 47-44 Pride. Out of a media timeout, Bryson put in a free throw to tie the game at 48. A fast-scoring game would go back and forth with Musonge picking up a handful of points. Segich, Schlatter, and Bright capitalized off points from the line. With just over a minute left, Dodson brought the game within one with a layup before the Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to end the game 75-70.
