READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Soccer allowed two late goals in a loss to the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
The Pride are now 2-9-5 on the season and 1-2-3 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride took 15 shots (4 on goal) while the Golden Wolves took 12 shots (4 on goal).
- Aiden Sommers scored the lone goal of the game for Widener.
- Widener earned 2 corner kicks while Alvernia earned 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener came out with high energy and controlled much of the early game. The breakthrough came in the 17th minute when Aiden Sommers found the back of the net to put the Pride ahead 1–0. The Pride defense kept Alvernia off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half. Widener carried the 1–0 lead into halftime after an assertive 45 minutes that included quality chances from Michael Burckley and Jordi Lopez.
- Alvernia increased the pressure after the break, but Widener's defense held firm for much of the half. Willey made two crucial saves to preserve the advantage, including a stop in the 49th minute. However, the Wolves broke through late, netting goals in the 85th and 87th minutes to overtake the Pride, 2–1. The Pride were unable to find the game tying goal and would lose by a final score of 2-1.
