CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Women's Soccer suffers a conference loss against the York College Spartans.
The Pride are now 6-7-3 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- The Pride committed three fouls while York committed 8.
- Widener earned one corner kick while York earned 7.
- Araba Abanyie had 7 saves on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- York opened the scoring early, taking a 1–0 lead in the 5th minute. The Widener defense regrouped, with goalkeeper Araba Abanyie turning away multiple shots including key saves in the 10th, 14th and 22nd minute. Despite sustained York pressure and several corner kicks, Widener held firm and would enter the half only down 1-0.
- The Pride continued to battle defensively and applied more to the Spartans defense to start the second half. York was able to breakthrough the Widener defense in the 78th minute to take a 2-0 lead late in the game. Abanyie made another key save in the 81st minute to keep the game within reach. Widener earned its lone corner kick in the 85th minute but could not break through as York closed out the 2–0 victory.
