Widener Battles York to 1-1 Draw

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Men's Soccer fought hard to earn a draw against the York College Spartans.  

The Pride are now 2-8-5 on the season and 1-1-3 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Pride took 12 shots (4 on goal) while the Spartans took 16 shots (9 on goal).
  • Max Hartke scored the lone goal of the game for Widener.
  • Widener earned 2 corner kicks while York earned 7.
  • Tristan Willey had a fantastic day turning away 8 shots.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • York opened the scoring in the 26th minute, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Pride. Widener battled back with several first-half chances, including shots from Michael Burckley, Ryan Toporowski, and Ryan Davis. Davis's effort in the 37th minute was on target but saved by York goalkeeper. The Widener defense held firm for the remainder of the half keeping the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
 
  • The Pride defense continued their solid play as Tristan Willey came up big, turning away multiple shot attempts from York, including stops in the 56th and 58th minutes. Widener was able to even the score in the 62nd minute as Max Hartke scored the game tying goal unassisted. The Pride were able to generate a few more chances but were unable to convert and would have to settle for a 1-1 draw against the Spartans.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will travel to reading Pa. to take on the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Tuesday, October 28th. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
