CHESTER, Pa. - The Widener University Field Hockey team battled through a nail-biter, earning a hard-fought 3–2 double overtime win over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
The Pride improves to 8-6 overall and advances to 1-3 in MAC Commonwealth action.

After Alvernia struck first, Widener answered right back when Haye found the back of the cage off a setup from Megan Bryk, tying the game 1–1. The Pride maintained steady offensive pressure throughout the quarter, earning multiple penalty corners and near chances keeping the Golden Wolves' defense on edge.

Widener continued to battle in a back-and-forth second quarter, generating chances off another penalty corner from Bryk and a late shot from Haye that tested Alvernia's keeper. Despite strong defensive play and steady possession, the Golden Wolves regained the lead late in the period to make it 2–1 heading into halftime.

The Pride's defense stood tall throughout the third, anchored by goalkeeper Fithian, who came up with multiple key saves to keep the Pride within striking distance. Despite a physical quarter filled with fouls on both sides, Widener held firm and kept the deficit at one heading into the final frame.

The Pride battled back early in the fourth as Karly Bervinchak found the back of the cage off an assist from Bryk, knotting the game at 2–2. Widener continued to press offensively, drawing multiple penalty corners down the stretch and nearly taking the lead on a penalty stroke, but the Alvernia keeper held firm to send the game into overtime.

The Pride held strong defensively through a tense extra frame, anchored by goalkeepers Fithian and Rejrat, who combined for key saves, including a clutch stop by Rejrat on a penalty stroke to keep Widener alive. In the final moments, Kayleigh Armstrong nearly ended it with a shot that struck the post, sending the matchup into a dramatic second overtime.

Widener's persistence paid off in the second extra period. After a series of fouls slowed the pace, Quartapella delivered the golden goal in the 77th minute, finishing off a setup from Karly Bervinchak to seal the 3–2 double-overtime victory for the Pride.
