Pride Suffer 3-0 Defeat After Second Half Woes

Owings Mills, MD. – Widener Men's Soccer struggles in the second half and suffer defeat against the Stevenson Mustangs.

The Pride are now 1-8-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Pride had 11 shots (7 on goal). The Mustangs had 13 shots (9 on goal).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener came out with strong pressure early, earning a corner in the fifth minute that led to a shot from Salvatore Coppala, which was saved. Tristan Willey made key stops in the 14th minute on back-to-back Stevenson shots by to keep the game scoreless. Ryan Toporowski and Michael Burckley each had looks on goal early in the half, but Stevenson's keeper turned both away. The Pride defense held firm as the first half ended in 0–0 tie
 
  • Stevenson broke through the Widener defense in the 50th minute on a penalty kick goal to take a 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later, the Mustangs broke through again, doubling their lead. Widener continued to push forward as Aiden Sommers and Nick Polidoro both forced saves from the Stevenson keeper around the 65th and 70th minutes. However, Stevenson kept the momentum on their side, adding a third goal in the 75th minute to put the. The Pride were unable to find the back of the net and would lose by a final score of 3-0.
