Late Push Not Enough as Pride Edged by Hood

CHESTER, Pa. - The Pride put together a strong offensive effort but couldn't complete the comeback in a narrow 3-4 loss to the Blazers.

The Pride drops to 7-6 overall and 0-3 in MAC Commonwealth action.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Pride recorded 26 shots.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hood struck early to grab control of the game, finding the back of the net less than three minutes in. Widener generated several looks off penalty corners from Megan Bryk and Krista Bervinchak, but strong defensive play and a key save by Hood's goalkeeper kept the Pride off the board. The Blazers added another late in the frame to take a 2–0 lead after the first quarter.

  • The Blazers extended their lead midway through the second to make it 3–0. The Pride held strong defensively, with goalkeepers Fithian and Rejrat teaming up for key saves, including a clutch stop on a Hood penalty stroke. The Pride continued to press on attack, earning a string of penalty corners before breaking through late in the frame as Cenci found the back of the net off an assist from Brie Mallozzi, cutting the deficit to 3–1 heading into halftime.

  • Hood opened the second half with an early goal to extend its lead to 4–1, but Widener refused to back down. The Pride continued to generate offensive chances through multiple penalty corners and sustained pressure in the circle. Goalkeeper Rejrat came up strong with several key saves to keep the deficit within reach, while Armstrong capitalized on a late penalty stroke to pull Widener within two. The Pride carried that momentum into the final frame trailing 4–2.

  • The Pride battled relentlessly in the final frame, keeping the pressure on Hood with a series of penalty corners and strong offensive looks. Widener took advantage of Hood's penalties to control possession late in the game. Armstrong struck again, converting her second penalty stroke of the night to bring the Pride within one. Despite several close chances down the stretch, Widener's late rally came up just short, falling 4–3 after a hard-fought comeback effort.
