Men’s Basketball Fall in Conference Opener

CHESTER, Pa. – The first MAC Commonwealth matchup of the season shows a tough defeat for Widener Men's Basketball against Hood.
 
The 78-61 loss moves the Pride to 2-10 in the regular season and 0-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jacob Aryee led the Pride with 12 points in his 19 minutes of play.
  • Myles Bright, Matt Daulerio, and Jay-Nelly Reyes each saw 10 points.
  • Bright would show a season high eight rebounds.
  • The defense would be led by Emmett Kane with four steals.
  • The Pride shot 35.6% from the field, 28.6% from three, and saw 28 points off the bench.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Daulerio would get the Pride started, scoring the first five points for the team but still finding themselves down 5-9. Widener would catch fire from behind the arc, with Jay-Nelly Reyes, and Kori Segich knocking down big threes to keep the lead in single digits. Jacob Aryee would hit back-to-back threes to tie the game at 22, but the Blazers would find backdoor cuts for easy points as the Pride would trail 40-34 heading into half.
  • Out of halftime, Steven Hamilton would get the Pride started with a block to help Segich hit a jumper shortly after. A triple at 17:37 by Mazur would bright the Blazers lead back to six. Mazur continued the scoring with a good jumper minutes later. An offensive struggle from the Pride would be ended with a good Aryee charity stripe shot to cut into the 17-point deficit. A Bright steal allowed the Pride to capture three quick points just under the halfway mark. A Daulerio triple brought the lead to 13 at 8:50. The Bright party continued with a layup to draw an and 1 to push the Pride over 50. A tip-in from Bright and an Ethan Dodson layup would end the game with a final score of 78-61.

Widener hits the road on Saturday, Jan. 11 for a MAC Commonwealth matchup against the 6-6 (0-1 MAC Commonwealth) Stevenson Mustangs. Tip-off in Owings Mills, Md. is set for 3 p.m.
