Men’s Basketball Snap Losing Streak with First Conference Win Over Stevenson

Pride move to .500 in conference play, Daulerio double-doubles, Bright leads

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – A 16-point win shows a Widener Men's Basketball and MAC Commonwealth win on the road at Stevenson.
 
The 73-57 win moves the Pride to 3-10 in the regular season and 1-1 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Myles Bright would lead the Pride with 14 points and would snag six rebounds in 26 minutes of play.
  • Matt Daulerio put up a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
  • The defense was led by Daulerio and Jay-Nelly Reys who each had two blocks and a steal.
  • The Pride shot 45.8% from the floor, 28.6% from three, and saw 40 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kevin Schenk helped the Pride to their first points of the game with a quick steal. Luke Mazur capitalized with a good jumper 5-0 run. Bright put in a free throw while Mazur snagged an offensive board to give Schenk two points. Bright hit the first triple at 16:03 to give the Pride a six-point lead. Around the halfway mark, Schenk went on to put in a quick five points with a triple and a layup. Kori Segich and Emmett Kane saw their first points in the latter half of the half with a 12-point lead. At 2:10, Reyes sunk a triple for his first points of the game to head into halftime up 34-27.
  • A halftime break didn't slow the Pride as Daulerio put in a layup, pushing the lead to nine. The Mustangs would bring the game to three points but a pair of Segich free throws and a Bright fastbreak layup pushed the lead back to seven. Reyes put in a triple to put a 10-point cushion on the board with 13:39 left. Another triple fell at 12:24 by Reyes as he would find a groove with a block a minute later. Mazur, Bright, and Segich each saw layups to help extend the lead to 15 with less than 10 minutes to play. Bright continued to find the net with another two quick layups. With time ticking under five, Schenk and Bright helped extend the lead to 22. Mazur capped off the day with a triple at 2:13 and ended the Blue and Gold scoring. The Pride came home with a 72-57 win.

Widener returns to the Den on Wednesday, Jan. 15 to take on the 8-5 (1-1 MAC Commonwealth) Eastern Eagles. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
