CHESTER, Pa. – Physical battle in the Schwartz Athletic Center ends in Widener Men's Basketball win over Eastern.
The 82-74 win moves the Pride to 4-10 in the regular season and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Matt Daulerio registered a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
- Defensively, Daulerio would see a season high five blocks.
- Jay-Nelly Reyes came home with four steals.
- The Pride shot 43.3% from the floor, 45% from three, and capitalized on mistakes with 23 points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A hot start for the Pride began with a Kori Segich triple right out of tip. A Daulerio jumper in the paint pushed a quick five points to the board. The Pride offense would hold while the Eagles tied the game but a Daulerio block and triple send the Blue and Gold up three. Myles Bright saw his first points of the game with a good jumper at 15:07. Daulerio continued the scoring with a layup from Ethan Dodson. A Reyes triple at 7:41 would push the lead to seven and help in a 10-0 run. Jacob Aryee ended the run with a triple at 5:44. Kori Segich hit a triple at 3:07 with another Dodson assist. With a minute left, Daulerio put one in from the charity stripe to head into halftime up 32-27.
- Two minutes into the second half, Bright would see a defensive rebound to put in a good layup seconds later. Luke Mazur poked a ball lose to allow Bright to go to the stripe for two shots. The hot Pride team continued with a Daulerio block and a Bright rebound helping Mazur put in a good jumper. A triple at 15:23 by Daulerio pushed the lead to double digits. Just outside the halfway mark, Aryee put in a layup before a long Eagles run. Kevin Schenk put two in from the line to push the lead back to five. A close back and forth scoring run from both sides would be ended with a Mazur triple, a steal, and a layup to turn the game to the Blue and Gold. Daulerio saw another block at 3:54 to hold the Eagles back allowing Bright to hit a triple after a Reyes steal. Bright, Schenk, and Reyes finished off the game with free throws to end the game with an 82-74.
