CHESTER, Pa. – Four Widener Men's Basketball players aid in the third straight conference win over Alvernia on Saturday afternoon.
The 79-67 win moves the Pride to 5-10 in the regular season and moved to 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Myles Bright led the Pride with 19 points.
- Matt Daulerio would snag eight rebounds and a block.
- Off the bench, Jay-Nelly Reyes had 10 points and three steals in his 31 minutes of play.
- The Pride shot 53.3% from the floor, 52.9% from three, and saw 46 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A fast pace offensive start from Daulerio and Luke Mazur would put up four quick ones two minutes in. A Mazur triple at 15:45 would be the first of the afternoon to take a 7-4 lead. Bright sunk a triple later to tie the game at 13 as a close battle was forming. Daulerio would put up a block allowing the Pride to go on a quick four point run from Jay-Nelly Reyes and Daulerio. A Bright layup at 4:32 would take a two point lead on a fastbreak layup to start a Pride favored final few minutes. Mazur would hit a jumper to take a three point lead while Reyes put in a layup to bring the deficit down to one. The Pride would head into halftime down one with a score of 33-32.
- Out of halftime, Daulerio opened the scoring gates with a layup 13 seconds in. The offense got hot with a 14-0 run in the first four minutes of play to force a couple Golden Wolves timeouts. Triples from Mazur and Kevin Schenk aided in the Pride run to take a 49-35 win at 16:15. Back to back Schenk points would be a ended with a dunk. At 7:27 Reyes put in one from the charity stripe while hitting a triple right after. A defensive rebound from Schenk and a jumper gave the Pride an 11 point lead. The final minutes of play saw points from Bright, Reyes, and Mazur gave the Pride their third straight conference win for a final of 79-67.
