Widener Field Hockey Puts on a Clinic Against Del Val

The Pride Only Allowed One Shot All Game

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Field Hockey picks up their first win of the season as they breeze past Delaware Valley 3-1.

The Pride improve to 1-1 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Eleanor Giesher's vision was on display as she got the lone assist of the game.

  • As a team, the Pride out-shot the Aggies 20-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter was slow and defensive as the teams were looking to figure each other out. The one shot of the period was blocked, and both teams finished the quarter scoreless.

  • The Pride went of the offensive in the second quarter, taking eight total shots. The pressure was on the Aggies, with the ball mostly being in their side, until a Meredith Marsteller goal would break the scoreless tie and give Widener a 1-0 lead.

  • Widener continued to keep Delaware Valley right where they wanted them, spending most of the time near the Aggie goal. Eleanor Giesher would find Hannah Miller on a beautiful cross pass to extend the lead to 2-0 heading into the fourth.

  • It was more of the same in the fourth quarter as the Pride continued their onslaught of shots and kept the Aggie goalie busy. Hannah Miller would score her second goal of the game on a stunning aerial shot from just inside the shooting circle. The Aggies would score a goal with a minute left in the game, but the Pride would end with a 3-1 win.
