Physical Battle Ends in Pride Victory Against Salisbury

Eight Yellow Cards and One Red Card Were Assessed

CHESTER, Pa. – The Pride came out on top in a physical battle against the Salisbury University Seagulls.
 
The Pride move to 4-3-3 in the regular season and remain 0-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

  • The Pride had 10 shots (4 on goal). The Seagulls had 12 shots (5 on goal).
  • Christian Doyle and Sean Fatiga both scored one goal.
  • Christian Doyle had one assist.
  • Widener was assessed 3 yellow cards. Salisbury was assessed 4 yellow cards and 1 red.
  • Nicole Rende had 5 saves in goal.
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • With a light rain coming down on Hirschmann Field, Widener and Salisbury kicked off in what would become a gritty match. The Pride were able to strike first as Christian Doyle scored at the 19:55 mark on a penalty kick. After the goal, Widener's defense was able to shut out The Seagulls allowing eight shots but none of them connecting. The first half also saw a large number of fouls committed by both teams as Widener committed six fouls and Salisbury committed eleven. The match would go into the half with Widener leading one-to-zero.
 
  • Coming out of the half, the match only became more physical with Salisbury committing thirteen fouls in the half compared to Widener's three fouls. With this physicality came a defensive bout in the second half as neither team was able to get much going offensively. The Pride offense finally broke through as Sean Fatiga headed one into the net at the 89:59 mark with an assist from Christian Doyle to ice the game for The Pride and secure their fourth win of the season.

Widener will Travel to Reading, Pa. to face Albright College on Saturday, October 5th. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
