Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Comes Up Just Short in a Last-Minute Winning Effort

CHESTER, Pa. - One goal was the difference between a win and a loss as Field Hockey falls to Stockton 0-1.

The Pride fall to 4-3 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Julianna Sanchez would lead the team with 3 shots.

  • Abby Blake would have 3 saves on 4 shots faced.

  • As a team, the Pride would out-shoot Stockton 10-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Stockton would score make a quick play in the first quarter before the defense was properly set to get a goal just over one minute into the game. The Pride's four retaliaition shots of the quarter would miss their mark as the team would trail 0-1 heading into the second.

  • The second quarter was a defensive one as only one shot would be on goal. That shot would be from Stockton and would be saved by Abby Blake. No goal would be scored, and the 0-1 Stockton lead would remain.

  • Blake would pick up another two saves early in the third quarter, but the Pride would still not be able to pick up a goal. The two Widener shots of the quarter were blocked and saved as the Ospreys would cling onto their 0-1 lead.

  • The Pride's defense would continue to shine as they would keep the Ospreys away from the goal for nearly the entire quarter. Seeing this, coach McCarthy would call for the power play as only three minutes remained, and Widener needed a score. Widener would get close many times in the stretch, but would ultimatley fall short of a goal and lose 0-1.

UP NEXT
