CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Men's Soccer secures their third win of the season against the Goucher College Gophers.
The Pride improve to 3-3-2 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
· The Pride had 19 shots (8 on goal). The Gophers had 9 shots (5 on goal).
· Carter Hoover,
Christian Doyle, and
Sean Fatiga all scored one goal.
· Widener had 10 corner kicks, while Goucher had 0.
· Ryan Van Pelt made four saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· Widener started out this match by controlling the ball attempting multiple shots on goal within the first few minutes of the match. The Gophers were able to defend against the Widener offensive and eventually turned the tide scoring the first goal of the match at the 31:04 mark. The Pride would keep up their offensive attack by maintaining control of the ball and putting pressure on Goucher. Widener was unable to capitalize on their lopsided possession time and the match went into the half with a score of Goucher one and Widener zero.
· The Pride came out of the half ready to correct their mistakes from the first half. They immediately got on the board at 49:03 as
Carter Hoover tied the game for Widener. After the game tying goal,
Christian Doyle was able to put Widener ahead soon after at the 55:25 mark. The Pride would maintain a two to one lead until the 85:48 mark when
Sean Fatiga added an insurance goal for The Pride securing the victory.
