CHESTER, Pa. - Early game offense and late game defense leads to Widener Field Hockey picking up a 2-0 win over Immaculata. Â
The Pride improve to 3-2 and remain 0-0 in conference play.Â
BY THE NUMBERSÂ
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
-
The Pride were quick to go on the offensive, as a penalty stroke early saw Kayleigh Armstrong pick up a goal in just over five minutes of play. Widener would take five more shots in the quarter, but none would find the back of the net, and they would take a 1-0 lead after the first.Â
-
Widener was not satisfied with the one point lead, as Karly Bervinchak's dribble drive would fake out the goalkeeper and get her a goal for a 2-0 lead. The Pride's defense would kick in, not allowing a single shot for the quarter, and they would maintain their lead heading into the half.Â
-
The third quarter was all defensive, as no goal was scored despite two shots from the Might Macs and four from the Pride. Abby Blake would pick up a save on the lone shot on goal, and Widener would keep their 2-0 lead after three quarters.Â
-
The fourth quarter was more of the same, as both teams played great defense. The Pride would restrict any shots from the Mighty Macs, and the three Widener shots in the quarter were blocked and saved. The horn would sound, and the Pride would take a 2-0 win.Â
