ASTON, Pa. - Widener Women's Volleyball put on a show at the Knight's Invitational, beating both teams to close out their tournament weekend.Â
The Pride improve to 6-4 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CEDAR CRESTÂ

Kristen Vacca's three kills would spark a 7-0 start to set one for the Pride. The teams would trade points from there, but Martucci's back-to-back aces would cap off a 5-0 run later in the set to take an 18-8 edge. The Falcons would not go down easy, battling for points late, but a Gabriela Santell kill from Chronister would give the Pride a 25-15 win.Â

Azira Benjamin would be the highlight early in the second set with four straight aces as the Pride took a 12-2 lead. Widener would score two for every one Falcon point own the stretch, but a 0-4 Falcons run would cut the lead down to 21-11 late. A trusty Martucci kill from Prior would seal the set however, as the Pride would take it 25-12.Â

The third set was much more back-and-forth to start until a 7-1 Pride run saw them leading 15-11. The Falcons would regain the lead 17-18 with a 0-5 run, and the teams were tied at 20 late in the set. Ricevuto and Toomey's kills helped, but a Falcon kill would give them the third set 23-25.Â

It was again a battle early in the fourth set, until Herrin and Benjamin's hitting led 7-0 Widener run to give them the lead 11-6. The teams would trade scores, with the Pride up 19-17, when Widener would explode for six-straight scores to close the set 25-17. The game was decided with a Isabella Ricevuto kill from Prior.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DESALESÂ

The Bulldogs' 0-4 run early would see the Pride down 3-8 to start. Desales would continue to push their lead, up 5-13, when the Pride's 8-2 run would close the gap at 13-15. Martucci's kill and ace would highlight a late 7-1 run to take the lead for the first time in the set at 24-23. Back-to-back Bulldog errors would sink them as the Pride would take a 26-24 win.Â

Azira Benjamin would shine in another second set, this time with two aces and a kill as Widener would start with a 5-2 lead. The Bulldogs would respond by taking the lead with a 0-6 run, but Herrin's three kills would retake the lead late at 20-19. Unfortunately, the Pride would total four errors to finish the set as they would give it away 21-25.Â

Desales would come into the third set hot, as two big runs early would see Widener down 7-11. The Pride would tie the game at 12 but the Bulldogs kept pulling away, until a 7-2 run would see Widener with a 24-21 lead. An Azira Benjamin kill from Meghan Prior would give the Pride the 25-23 win.Â

The fourth set was a battle of small runs to start, but back-to-back Chronister aces would put the Pride up 13-11. Desales would fight to tie the game at 17, then again at 22, as they battled on in a tight finish. Unfortunately, Desales would score three of the next four to take the set 23-25.Â

Both teams came in strong for the final set, but it was the Pride with the early 4-2 lead. Martucci's hitting was a standout, but a 7-0 Bulldog run put the Pride in a tough position down 8-12. Widener would dig deep and respond with a resounding 7-1 run to finish it however, as a Martucci kill from Chronister would give the Pride the comeback win 16-14.Â
