CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Men's Soccer secured its first victory of the 2024 season against the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions.
The Pride are now 1-0-1 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
· The Pride had 21 shots (5 on goal). The Nittany Lions had 9 shots (5 on goal).
· Sean Fatiga and
Jordi Lopez both had one goal.
· Widener had eight corner kicks compared to one from Penn State Abington.
· Ryan Van Pelt had five saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The first shot attempt of the game for The Pride was taken at the 4:52 mark by
Sean Fatiga and just missed hitting the right post. Shortly after,
Jordi Lopez took the second shot attempt of the game at 6:30 barely missing over the top of the net.
· The Pride defense played a strong first half limiting the Nittany Lions to only two shot attempts. Penn State Abington would allow twelve shots attempts in the first half but were able to keep Widener off the board.
· Widener would not stay scoreless for long after halftime. At 52:52,
Jordi Lopez delivered the go-ahead goal. At the 60:54 mark,
Sean Fatiga gave The Pride some insurance with his second goal of the season.
· The Pride defense was able to continue their stellar defensive performance into the second half, shutting out the Nittany lions and securing their first win of the season.
