CHESTER, Pa. – Head Field Hockey Coach Melissa McCarthy announced Widener's 2024 schedule with season home opener set for late August.
"We are extremely excited to start our 2024 campaign," said Head Field Hockey Coach Melissa McCarthy. "With a core group returning from last season's team, and a focused spring, we are ready to pick up right where we left off. WUFH will compete in one of its most competitive schedules to date, and we know these challenges will set us up for success in the MAC Commonwealth, region, and nation."
The Pride begin their 17-game season at home on Edith R. Dixon field on August 30 with a visit from the Bryn Mawr Owls. The Owls would advance to the Centennial Conference semifinals in 2023 after their 11-6 season. Less than a week later, MAC Freedom's Delaware Valley makes an appearance for their second game. A road game to Chestertown, Md. on September 7 will serve as the first away match up against Washington College with the Pride looking to continue their win streak after last year's 1-0 win.
A three-game home stretch will wrap up September with visits from Immaculata, William Patterson, and Stockton. This year's William Patterson game on September 21 will mark the first meeting of the teams since 2009 in the regular season. Most recently the Pride took down the Pioneers in the first round of the 2021 ECAC Championship. Prior to MAC Commonwealth play beginning the Pride will head to Glassboro, N.J. to see the NJAC Champion and NCAA Tournament team Rowan on October 9.
MAC Commonwealth play opens up three days after the Rowan game against Albright on Dixon Field. The Pride will play a full MAC Commonwealth lineup through the month of October with key back-to-back games against York, Stevenson, and Messiah. Home play ends with Hood on October 26 before wrapping up the season with Alvernia and Eastern.
The MAC Commonwealth Conference Tournament is set to begin on November 6. The conference championship game will be played on Saturday, November 9.
