Women’s Track and Field Two-Peat as MAC CHAMPIONS in Historic Way

Pride score 197 points, earn MAC title for first time on Hansell Track

CHESTER, Pa. – A little rain doesn't stop Widener Women's Track and Field's celebration after being named MAC Outdoor Champions for the second year in a row.

I'm very honored to be named Coach of the Year, it's a testament to our team and the ladies who put in the work every single day to achieve their goals. I'm lucky to have a great group of assistants who work tirelessly to put these women in the best position for success and to have a group of women who bought into what we are trying to achieve as a program."
 
This year's championship is the first time the women's program has won a championship on the George A. Hansell Track.
 
DAY 1 (Thursday | 3rd Place | 19 Points)
 
In the 10k on Thursday evening, Kathryn Long would place sixth with a 39:50.74. Chris Tran placed 12th with a 40:59.94 and Emily Rudolph finished in a 42:57.61.
 
The quad of Donna Holt, Erin O'Brien, Emma Schultz, and Gabby Nye grabbed bronze in the 4x800 relay. The four would clock in a 9:37.46.
 
Isabel Rodriguez showed why she was top in the conference in the hammer throw. Rodriguez marked a 51.63-meter throw to win by four meters. Sydney Altman threw a 36.59-meter distance while Jillian Walker threw a 34.23-meter toss. Anna Baukal marked a 31.39-meter distance.
 
In the heptathlon, Theresa Kervick woud lead after one day with 2915 points.
100-hurdles – 16.94
High jump – 1.51-meters
Shot put – 9.19-meters
200-meter dash – 27.33
Long jump – 4.80-meters
 
DAY 2 (Friday | T-1st Place | 63 Points)
 
In the 100-meter dash, Maria Muzzarelli led Mariam Koita, and Jayla Gore to a top eight finish in preliminaries. Muzzarelli clocked in a 12.27 to be seeded second while Koita took third in a 12.41 and Gore in a 12.70. Olivia Giannella also competed where she would clock a 13.28
 
The 400-meter dash would feature the defending MAC title holder Kelly Bar. Barr would qualify fourth for finals with a 1:00.19. Emma Schultz (1:00.94) and Olivia DeVito (1:01.01) also took lanes in the finals race with a seventh and eighth seed. Carly Lownes ran a 1:01.42 to finish 11th.
 
Holt qualified in the 800-meter and ran a 2:19.44. 
 
The Pride would put four in the finals of the 200-meter dash. Koita led the pack with a 25.07. Muzzarelli (25.16), Kayla Robinson (25.66), and Barr (25.86) joined Koita.
 
Elise Daniel ran to a top seed in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:06.43. Kervick would just miss the finals as she clocked in a 1:09.63, missing by .9.
 
Liz Egan shattered a personal best and Widener school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Egan took home gold with a 11:09.63 and is currently 34th in the nation. Shannon Pfeifer also saw a personal best time of 11:57.75 and a seventh-place finish. 
 
Another top seed would go to the 4x100 relay of Muzzarelli, Gore, Barr, and Robinson as the four clocked a 48.88. 
 
Savannah Steger took home a gold medal in the pole vault. Steger clear 3.15 and 3.25 heights on her first attempt and end with a 3.25-meter height.
 
Robinson nabbed a bronze in the long jump with a 5.27-meter distance.
 
In discus, Rodriguez earned a bronze with a 37.63-meter throw.
 
Kervick ended her heptathlon with a gold medal after coming into day two with a lead. Kervick scored 4135 points.
Javelin – 30.47-meters
800 – 2:26.76

DAY 3 (SATURDAY | 1st Place | 197 Points)
 
Muzzarelli took home a silver in the 100-meter dash finals to lead Koita and Gore to a 2-3-4 finish. Koita clocked a 12.50 while Gore finished in a close 12.70.
 
Barr two-peated as 400-meter champion with a 57.63. DeVito finished sixth in a 1:00.11 and Schultz finished eighth in a 1:01.21.
 
Holt defended her title in the 800-meter run and did so with a one second lead. Holt clocked in a new Widener record 2:14.36. Holt is currently ranked 48th in the nation.
 
Nye placed second for a silver medal in the 1500-meter run. She would run a 4:41.18. Nye continued her distance dominance in the 5000-meter run where she ran to a gold medal 17:44.93.
 
Egan and Long also raced to a seventh and eighth place finish in the 5000-meter run. Egan finished in a 18:04.46 and Long in a 18:05.59.
 
Muzzarelli once again led Koita and Robinson in the 200-meter dash. Muzzarelli clocked in a 25.27 to earn silver. Koita grabbed the bronze with a 25.44 and Robinson placed fourth in a 25.68. Barr picked up an eighth place point with a 27.14.
 
Daniel picked up some hardware with a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles. She would race to a 1:04.07 to win by over a second. Daniel is currently 36th in the nation. 
 
The 4x100 finals would give more points the Pride as they took home gold in a 48.07.
 
The Pride capped off their day on the track with a gold in the 4x400 relay. The quad of Schultz, DeVito, Lownes and Barr clocked in a 4:02.54.
 
Robinson ended her meet with a silver in the triple jump where she marked an 11.74-meter distance and a gold in the shot put. In shot, she would win by almost a meter with her 12.64-meter toss. Robinson's triple jump puts her at 25th in the nation. 
 
Tatiana Carr placed 10th in the javelin with a 31.05-meter throw.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to competition on Monday, April 13 for the Widener Final Qualifier in search of more regional and national qualifiers.
