CHESTER, Pa. – A dominating win over Alvernia in the MAC Commonwealth opener for Widener Men's Lacrosse was led by
Bryant Maits and
Keegan Billie.
The 15-3 win moves the Pride to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in MAC Commonwealth play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first five minutes of the game was a shot fest for the Pride as Matt Horgan and Matt Buckley each saw one. Cam Hazel broke the scoring drought of the game with a goal at 8:53 to put the Pride on the board. Young opened his game with a caused turnover and ground ball to lead into a Nick Brennan goal at 7:43. Out of a Pride timeout, Chris Covington created a turnover to help the Nicholas Knepp score the third goal of the game. The Pride went into the second quarter with a 3-1 lead.
- A quick start to the second was led with a man-down goal by Wesley Sporer just 10 seconds into the quarter. Billie would keep the attacking Golden Wolves back with a handful of saves before Sporer scored again at 9:55. At 7:46, Maits began his scoring of the day to make the score 6-1. A Austin Angradi caused turnover would give Liam Montgomery a ground ball to send Maits ripping shots. Maits' third shot would see the back of the cage to force a Golden Wolves timeout. The Pride went into half with a 7-2 lead.
- The momentum continued to swing toward the Blue and Gold out of halftime as Young saw another caused turnover. Billie kept the scoring to a minimum with another save to transition he team into a Matt Ellison goal to begin a 4-0 run. Montgomery won the following faceoff to give Maits another goal and hat-trick with an assist from Sean Alminde. Shots continued to pester the attacking zone as Maits shot would fall once more to make the score 10-3 with 8:33 remaining. Billie continued to make saves to keep the Golden Wolves at three. Buckley ended the third at 1:41 which capped off the third quarter run.
- The beginning of the fourth trended like the start. Billie would register three saves in the four minutes. N. Knepp headed into the attacking zone to score a man-up goal on a Sporer pass to make the score 12-3. Buckley continued to pour on the goals with another at 8:54 while Horgan added one for himself at 6:30. Connor Powell was sent into the cage to closeout the game for the Pride. Horgan closed the scoring with a goal just under a minute from a George Balascak pass to end with a 15-4 final.
