BY THE NUMBERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A slow start for the Pride would hurt the offensive side of the ball. The Pride began the shooting game with shots from Bryant Maits and N. Knepp who would rattle shots wide. Three quick Spartan goals would force a timeout at 9:57. After a Shaffer faceoff win, Buckley would put the Pride on the board at the 8:58 mark of the first. Billie would end the quarter with a handful of saves to keep the score at 5-1 Spartans.
- Opening the second was a defensive battle on both sides as the first goal came at the 8:15 minute mark. In the seven-minute stretch, Buckley would take a shot and Covington would force a Spartan turnover. With 4:02 left, Wingate, with the help from Buckley, would move the Pride to two. The Blue and Gold would head into the half down 10-2.
- Right out of half, the shots began to fly with a wide Spartan shot and a post hit to keep the score down. A good clear would transition into a behind-the-back Nick Brennan beauty off a J. Knepp pass. The score was 12-3 Spartans. Wingate saw his second goal of the game at the 8:47 minute mark as J. Knepp, once again, sent a ball in. Shots began to fly once more from the Pride as Wesley Sporer and Buckley would let them fly. The Pride headed into the final 15 of play down 15-4.
- Heister out of the gate would make key saves to hold the Spartans at 15. For a chunk of the final quarter of play, the Pride were held scoreless as Mike Kala'I, Wingate, and Sporer continued to shoot in hopes of adding one to the home side. In the final 1:30 of play, two back-to-back Pride goals would give the team some energy. Sporer would see his first goal of the game at the 1:18 minute mark. Less than a minute later, a Garrett Schulz forced turnover gave the Pride a good clear and a Buckley goal. However, the Pride would fall 20-6 under the lights.
