Men’s Lacrosse Falls Short in Fourth Quarter Defeat Against Arcadia

Fourth quarter cause problems for defense

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Fourth quarter stretch deemed detrimental in Widener Men's Lacrosse's tough loss against Arcadia.

The 11-8 loss puts the Pride at 1-7 in the regular season with the first MAC Commonwealth game set for the first weekend in April against Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a slippery start for the Pride, Maits scored the first goal at the 11:46 mark as N. Knepp sent a pass in. Shingle won the following faceoff and would begin a scoreless portion of the first. Shots from Buckley would be saved and wide before Maits picked up his second goal at the 6:36 mark to tie the game at two. As the first came to an end, Wesley Sporer gave the Pride a 3-2 lead.
  • The Pride would begin the second on the defensive. Matt Horgan scored the first goal of the second after Shingle won another faceoff. 10 seconds later Buckley saw his first goal of the game with a N. Knepp assist right out of the Shingle faceoff win. Sporer would take the final shot from both sides to head into halftime tied at five.
  • Out of halftime Cole Helmer and Zach Rosamalia each snagged a ground ball. At the 5:11 mark, N. Knepp tied the game at six with a Maits assist. The Prde would take a timeout with 1:30 left in the quarter to draw a play. An extra-man opportunity would force the Knights to take a timeout. Out of the Knights' timeout Townsend caused a turnover to transition into a N. Knepp man-up goal to head into the fourth up 7-6.
  • The Blue and Gold began the fourth struggling as turnovers caused problems for the offensive string. Shots would rattle off from Buckley, N. Knepp, and Maits but wouldn't see any net. Buckley would see the only goal of the fourth for the Pride with 1:01 left in the game. The Pride would fall 11-8.
