Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short to Cabrini Cavaliers

This was the Pride's Third Road Game in Their Opening Four Games

RADNOR, Pa. – Widener men's lacrosse could not overcome the Cabrini University Cavaliers on Saturday, falling 20-8.

The Pride are 0-4 in the regular season. Their first MAC game is on Saturday, April 6 vs. Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CABRINI
  • Cabrini won the opening face-off. Both sides would turn the ball over rather quickly before Widener was charged with a pushing penalty. The Cavaliers scored their first goal exactly two minutes into the game, and it would be one of five for the quarter. The Pride got a few shots up, but turnovers were preventing more shot opportunities. After one, Cabrini led 5-0.
  • Even though the Cavaliers had two missed shots to start the second quarter, the third was successful. Another goal just 27 seconds later made the score 7-0. However, Widener stopped the streak after winning the next face-off and put one in the net. It would be one of two goals in a one-minute stretch. Buckley's goal was first, followed by Bryant Maits on a man-up situation. Cabrini countered with four more scores. Things would heat up in the last three-and-a-half minutes of the quarter. Five goals were scored, three of them by Widener. Maits and Buckley cashed in, as well as Luke Cichetti on a man-up scenario. However, it was 13-5 at the break.
  • Cabrini opened the quarter with quick shots, but the Pride's defense held up. The Cavaliers picked up two simultaneous penalties, leading to a Widener score. Billie saw a few saves before the home team got hot. They scored four goals in almost 90 seconds. Nicholas Knepp capped off the quarter with a goal to cut the deficit to 10, but the Cavaliers led 17-7 after three.
  • Widener's fourth-quarter defense stood its ground early on. Four straight shots by Cabrini were unsuccessful. Buckley would get a shot through the net after a good clear. That would be the last Widener score, as Cabrini answered with three more scores. The Cavaliers won 20-8.
